Internships

Judge Barksdale is currently accepting applications for an intern or extern for Spring 2025. Judge Barksdale will begin accepting applications in December 2024 for an intern or extern for Summer 2025.
Judge Barksdale will coordinate work time with each student’s schedule, mindful that school is a priority. Still, to ensure a valuable experience, interns and externs typically work 40 hours a week and at least eight weeks. Interns and externs are supervised by a law clerk but will have contact with and obtain feedback from Judge Barksdale. Interns and externs perform duties similar to law clerks and attend court proceedings, research issues, and draft memoranda and other documents.
Judge Barksdale has the following criterion for intern and extern candidates: at least one year of law school by the internship/externship start date.

Application materials must be sent at least two months before the anticipated start date.

Preferences

Upon consent of the parties, Judge Barksdale will provide a date certain for trial.

If a dispute arises during a deposition in a case assigned to Judge Barksdale, the parties may call chambers to request a telephone conference after consulting the Discovery Handbook for guidance.
