The Middle District of Florida, Tampa Division, offers a unique opportunity for 12 qualified law students to gain valuable legal experience participating in a rotational program in which each student interns in the chambers of a U.S. District Judge, a U.S. Magistrate Judge, and a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge.

Dates of Internship: May 19, 2025 – August 1, 2025

Location: Sam M. Gibbons U.S. Courthouse, 801 N. Florida Avenue, Tampa, FL

Qualification Requirements: Students must have completed at least two semesters of law school by the start of the program, possess excellent research and writing skills, and be in the top one-third of their law school class.

Application Materials and Deadline: Submit a cover letter, resume, legal writing sample, and law school transcript (unofficial is fine) that includes all law school grades to date. Professional references and letters of recommendation are optional. Application materials should be submitted by January 31, 2025, as a single PDF document to CHAMBERS_FLMD_HONEYWELL@flmd.uscourts.gov.

Alternatively, applicants may mail their application materials (to be received no later than January 31, 2025) to 801 N. Florida Avenue, Tampa, FL 33602 Attn: U.S. District Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell. Applications that do not include grades will not be considered.

All complete applications will be considered when submitted. Selected telephonic or videoconference interviews may be scheduled. Offers will be extended by February 28, 2025. Successful candidates will be subject to background screening. Due to the large number of applicants, calling chambers is strongly discouraged.

Although the internship is unpaid, the experience is invaluable.
