United States Magistrate Judge Christopher P. Tuite's term expires on February 4, 2026. United States Magistrate Judge Sean P. Flynn's term expires on July 31, 2026. As required by law, the Middle District of Florida has established a merit selection panel to consider the reappointment of Judges Tuite and Flynn to an eight-year term in Tampa, Florida.
The duties of a United States Magistrate Judge, specified in 28 U.S.C. § 636, include conducting most preliminary proceedings in criminal cases, trying misdemeanor cases, conducting pretrial matters and evidentiary proceedings after delegation from a district judge, and trying civil cases with the consent of the litigants.
