Thank You to Chief Judge Corrigan

Thursday, October 31, 2024

As he ends his term as Chief Judge, the Court family expresses deep gratitude to Chief Judge Timothy J. Corrigan for his outstanding service.

Judge Corrigan became Chief Judge in November 2020. On top of his heavy caseload, Chief Judge Corrigan oversaw the execution of the Court's budget, developed and implemented long-range plans, oversaw court operations with court unit executives, and served as the main point of contact for the judges of the court, other courts, the Eleventh Circuit Judicial Council, the Administrative Office of U.S. Courts, non-Judiciary agencies, and the public. During his tenure as Chief Judge:

  • The President appointed two district judges (Judges Mizelle and Sneed).

  • Three district judges elected senior status (Judges Dalton, Honeywell, and Davis).

  • The Board of Judges appointed six magistrate judges (Judges Lambert, Dudek, Norway, Adams, Horovitz, and Griffin).

  • The Board of Judges re-appointed four magistrate judges (Judges Barksdale, Sneed, Sansone, and Irick).

  • The Board of Judges selected a Chief of Probation (Parker Anderson).

Judge Corrigan viewed his term as Chief Judge as an opportunity to serve. He devoted countless hours attending to his duties as Chief Judge. Many of his duties were visible to the bench, the clerk’s office, and the bar. More were not, including many difficult and thankless tasks that he performed without complaint.

A few of Judge Corrigan’s actions as Chief Judge deserve special mention. He was an outstanding leader in the face of unprecedented challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and the destruction visited on the Middle District of Florida by multiple hurricanes in the last few years. In his quest to help Middle Florida obtain the judicial resources it needs, he has left no stone unturned, emerging as a nationally recognized model for congressional outreach for judicial resources. And throughout his term as chief, Judge Corrigan exhibited his firm commitment to transparency in his communications with court staff and the legal community. Most importantly, Judge Corrigan’s innate kindness and sense of fairness made him respected by the entire court family.

Judge Corrigan will continue serving as a senior district judge in the Jacksonville Division.

Chief Judge Corrigan, the people of the United States and this Court are in your debt.
