Title: Separation of Powers: Framework for Freedom

Theme: The U.S. Constitution created a system of government with three separate but equal branches—the legislative, executive, and judicial. To ensure an effective government that protects citizens' rights, each branch has its own powers and responsibilities. The legislative branch makes law; the executive branch enforces law; the judicial branch interprets law. This careful calibration of balanced powers check one another to resist tyranny and safeguard freedom.

Task: Create a work of art addressing at least one aspect of this theme. Subjects to consider include

  1. the vital role of a branch of government;

  2. how the branches interact, share power, or check one another;

  3. how our three-branch system is unique; or

  4. how our three-branch structure serves to resist tyranny and safeguard freedom.

But these suggestions are not exhaustive. So think hard about our constitutional government and an aspect of it you want to explore artistically.
